| about my "Cape Cod Cottages" ..... This series of paintings was started in the summer of 2005 as an homage to the hundreds of cozy, rustic cottages that dot the shores of Cape Cod. Sadly, these quaint refuges are fast disappearing from the landscape. Many people still fondly remember past summers of wooden screen doors banging as they close, warm sunny days and sea cooled nights, the rhythmic surf lulling them to sleep as salty night breezes ruffle curtains through open windows. In these paintings, I seek to capture the special times of day around sunrise and sunset when the Cape Cod light is so unique and everything seems to glow . I have also placed most of these cottages so they have a view of well known landmarks. The 6 paintings of Series 1 created in 2005 include views in Chatham, Eastham, Truro and Provincetown. I hope you enjoy viewing them as much as I enjoy creating them. "North Beach View of Chatham Light - Sunset" Received an HONORABLE MENTION in the Oil/Acrylic Category at the Open-Juried "All Cape Art Show" held at the Creative Arts Center - Chatham, MA. in June 2006 Juror's Comment - "Bold use of simple color, Grand." This exhibit was open to all artists residing on Cape Cod and is one of the Creative Arts Center's premiere summer exhibitions. Bruce submitted two works for this show and both were among the limited number chosen to be exhibited. |
